President Joe Biden addressed the nation following the shooting at Donald Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024. He emphasized unity and condemned political violence, expressing concern and sending prayers for Trump and his family.
"There's no place in America for this type of violence. It's sick. It's one reason why we have to unite this country. We can't allow for this to be happening and be like this. We can not condone this," Biden said.
“The Trump rally was a rally that should've been able to be conducted peacefully without any problem," Biden added, "but the idea…that there's political violence or violence in America like this, is just unheard of."
Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed relief, saying, “Doug and I are relieved that [Trump] is not seriously injured. We are praying for him, his family, and all those who have been injured and impacted by this senseless shooting.” She added, “we must all condemn this abhorrent act and do our part to ensure that it does not lead to more violence..”
Former Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton also condemned the attack, emphasizing unity and civility.
The rally shooting has sparked widespread condemnation, highlighting the urgent need for a collective stand against political violence. Senator Ron Johnson stated that “The political division in this country is simply dangerous…We are horribly divided, but we are not a nationally divided people. We share the same goal. We want safety, security. We want enough opportunities to take care of our family. Let’s focus on those areas of agreement.”
